SK-II Facial Treatment Essence: Skincare Sundays

SK-II Skincare Facial Treatment Essence

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence Skin Care Sundays 6

I thought I’d start my newest blog foray with my all time obsession. . .skin care.

Skincare was something I never really had to worry about until . .oh . . about eight years ago, when I first moved into New York. I always had clear skin and only a pimple here or there and generally, they were hormonal.

I don’t know if it was something in NY water but all of a sudden my skin started to break out. And it broke out horribly. Pimples would form around the edges of my forehead and they started to grow on top of each other. It was horrible. I was never a huge foundation wearer but I started to cake it on to hide the pimples. And it would cause even more. It made me so self-conscious.

I’m not sure exactly how long it lasted. Looking back now, I’d like to say maybe 6-8 months. I do know what stopped it.

Korean skincare. Yep, you read that right. Korean skincare stopped my breakouts.

It all happened while talking with one of my friends (Korean) while we were walking through Manhattan’s k-town. I was bemoaning all my pimples and asking her how she got her skin to be so clear. So she pulled me over to Face Shop and an hour later I was $200 poorer.

She basically told me all about the Korean skincare routine (which is intense and needs a post all on it’s own) and showed me which products to buy to start my own routine. I bought toners, essences, serums, masks, exfoliators, scrubs. I had everything.

And I started to be diligent. I did the routine every.single.day (and night!). I also bought a Clarisonic and used it twice daily (which I also attribute to helping with my skin!) but I think it was the whole overhaul of my skin. . .as in the fact that I was more conscious and aware of cleaning my face, moisturizing it, feeding it the right essences.

Well, anyways, long story short, this brings us to a mini review of one of my favorite products and what I consider to be an actual game changer. The SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. You know, one of those products that you can actually immediately see results. There are tons of skin care items out there that promise to do a lot but after continuous daily application, you think to yourself “Meh, I don’t really see much of a difference”.

Well, with SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (and for me), I definitely saw a difference.

I initially hesitated upon buying the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. The price point is pretty damn high ($99?!) which makes it hard to fork over that money. For a while, I subsisted on what’s the commonly known dupe, the Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence, a whopping $29 vs. $99. And folks, don’t get me wrong. If you’re looking for a cheaper option, Missha does the job. But I definitely do see a much bigger difference when I use SK-II Facial Treatment Essence than when I use Missha Time Revolution.

What’s the difference that I see? Well, it’s 100% brightness. My skin looks so much brighter and clearer when I use SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. It. . shines. And in that good way! My darkened acne spots look a lot lighter. My cheeks look clear and bright. It just improves the overall brightness of my face.

What’s the biggest con? Well, when I first tried it, I did NOT like the scent. In fact, the first two days, I almost stopped using it. But guys, I definitely saw a difference the second day I used it and honestly, that made it worth it. (If I had to describe the smell, I would say it smells kind of sour, almost like the product went bad, but it didn’t!)

Would I buy the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence again? Yes, yes and yes. But my biggest recommendation is to buy it when Sephora has their yearly 15% or 20% off sale. Or to buy it with some kind of coupon. It definitely does get pricey but if you buy smart and use it smartly, it’ll make it worth it.

Oh, and how do you use it?! Well, it turns out I’ve been using it wrong! Before I was putting it on a cotton pad and spreading it on my face, which wastes a lot of product. I found out that you’re supposed to put about 4-6 drops in your hand and gently pat it on your face. Don’t rub! Pat. And honestly, that should make your whole bottle last about 6-8 months.

I’m linking the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence below, as well as where to find the Missha Time Revolution for half the price (like I said, it works, but not as well as the SK-II BUT if you’re a new skin care fanatic and don’t want to start with a $$$, it would be a good place to start). I also linked one of the special edition SK-II Facial Treatment Essence bottles which is SO GORGEOUS, but also $229. . .but SO GORGEOUS!

I do have to say that I received this particular bottle from Influenster BUT this review is fully my own and my own thoughts, and honestly. . .I was the biggest fan girl of SK-II even before I received the product (and already had a bottle of my own, that was kind of getting to empty status). So much so that when I got the e-mail, I pretty much squealed in my chair. This is THE holy grail skin care product and gets my full recommendation!

Do you guys have any favorite skin care products or essences?! Please share, I love reading new recommendations!

  • I read an article written by a Korean beauty blogger months ago, in which she broke down her entire skin regimen, which kept me scrolling, it was that long! BUT, it all made sense, plus she had a flawless face, so I decided to give the system a try and noticed results myself. I, too, live in New York and we do battle against A LOT of pollution, A LOT! I’ve vaguely heard of SK-II, you went into more detail than I’ve read. I’ll have to look into it! Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you’re having a great start to your June!

These products all sound absolutely amazing. I would love to try out SK-II but their products are just a little bit too expensive for me to test them out!

  • I had the exact same problem when I moved in to New York! My skin has been breaking out for a few months non-stop! I actually believe that it’s all related to food. I grew up in Russia where all food is organic and naturally grown, and here in the U.S. it’s not that easy to find anything free of hormones and chemicals. It took me forever to figure out how to treat my skin the right (American) way and all I can say is that fruits, veggies, grains, and tons of water is the only solution that works for me. Of course, high-quality skin care products are essential, but it’s always secondary for me – as healthy skin starts with healthy diet!

  • I have read only good reviews on this brand over recent years and now I’m seriously tempted to try one of their products! Brighter, clearer and shinier skin sounds just about perfect. It’s a pity about the smell, but worth putting up with if it performs so well! 🙂

  • I’m all about a solid skincare routine and I absolutely LOVE doing masks! So glad this worked out for you! I’ve been kind of on the fence about the essence. I love the masks, but the essence was a take it or leave it type of thing for me. I do use pure hyaluronic acid mixed with my regular moisturizer in the morning, and I start off with a few drops of Vitamin C serum, so maybe that’s why I didn’t feel too much of a difference. I think it’s totally hydrating if you use it prior to moisturizing! We need to go Korean product beauty shopping one of these days!!
