Holy Chic: From Day To Night
Have you ever had a piece in your closet that you love but you just never wear? I hate reading closet clean up posts where they recommend you throw out those pieces because a tiny part of me wants to throw a tantrum and go “Nooooo” as I hold onto it.
That’s what this skirt was to me. I’ve had it for about 3 years now, bought on extreme sale from French Connection (down to $40 from $200). I love it and feel like a sparkly mermaid anytime I wear it but I’ve worn it a total of TWO times. It’s one of those pieces in my closet that I always pause at and go, “Should I wear this today?” and then just burst out, “HAHA NO where am I going, who do I think I am, I’m just going to work!”.
Until I saw this awesome white tee from Letter Clothing and it’s like, it all clicked. I had the tee on and was trying it out with all the bottoms in my closet. It looked fine with jeans, hot with leather pants and then I saw my sequined mermaid skirt and thought, “Hmmm, how about this?”
My main concern with wearing this skirt out was that it would just be too much. Too much shimmer, too much glitter, just too much. But with the addition of a white lettered tee, it totally dressed it down. I wore it to work and to a blogger event afterwards and didn’t feel overdressed or underdressed at either location. I felt perfectly dressed!
It’s just another example of what I spoke about in this post, about shopping your own closet. I recommend doing this every so often. Even better if it’s on a sunny day and you blast some upbeat music and just try on all the items in your closet that you haven’t worn in ages! Maybe mix and match it, play around with it and just have fun! You might find one of those older pieces that you can rework into a current look!
